Larry and Dollie Gandron are enjoying retired life and following their dream. Before Larry and Dollie retired, they both had an idea what they wanted to do in their retirement years… start their own business. Neither had any experience in starting a business, but they had the most important part, an idea and a vision. With Larry’s ideas and Dollies computer skills; “America is Freedom” was created.
Their goal is to promote the Heritage of our Nation and of our Flag throughout our Communities; our Schools, Libraries, Businesses, Coffee shops, etc. with a flag display. And they did just that. They created the “America is Freedom” flag display. The “American is Freedom” display depicts the Evolution of the American Flag, and includes the Preamble to the Constitution, the Pledge of Allegiance, some Flag Etiquette facts as well as a story called, “I Remember, I Was There! I am Your Flag!”; written by Larry. The story portrays the birth of our Flag, through our Flag’s own eyes.
At the top of the flag display are images of General George Washington and President Abraham Lincoln. Larry’s thoughts are that General George Washington; one of our Founding Fathers and first President, played a large role in breaking away from British rule and becoming; The United States of America! (certainly not to minimize the accomplishments of the other Founding Fathers). As our country’s 16th President, Abraham Lincoln with his infinite wisdom and determination found a way to preserve the Nation. His efforts ultimately cost him his life.
The “America is Freedom” flag display instills a sense of Patriotism in every American who is engaged through it at the same time reminding us of the Liberty and Freedoms we sometimes take for granted.
The principle idea is to invite our youths and communities to not only be entertained by this display, but to be inspired and educated by it as well.
Our Flag Display are now placed in three local schools within our community, as well as several Elk Lodges and a local business’s. It is the vision of Larry and Dollie to see the “America is Freedom” flag display in every school across our nation.
